Some of my earliest memories are of beading sequins onto little necklaces made with sewing thread, sat in the little back room of my grandparents home. I am often told I turned out exactly like my grandmother, but I grew up 14000 km apart from her, so how would I know?

Nowadays, I reckon with my relationship with my family, and with her. I want to tell her that spending time with her gives me strength. That her stubbornness and blind devotion to her work have indeed made it to me.

This book is a story of a woman, her daughters, and their daughters. A love letter to the family I never grew up with.
